Our first Sustainability Report: engineering the future of façades

In architectural design every drawn line has an impact. At Sun Shading, we apply the same analytical rigor to our corporate footprint. With this spirit of transparency and pragmatism, we have drafted our first Sustainability Report for the year 2024.

Our sun shading systems are inherently born as sustainability tools: they guarantee solar control, promote passive cooling, and drastically reduce energy consumption for building cooling. But to be credible partners for the architects and designers of tomorrow, we decided to measure and optimize our internal processes (ESG) as well.

Our ESG Rating: data as a starting point

To obtain an objective and impartial evaluation, we relied on the Ecomate platform, within the European Enterprise Europe Network.

The analysis returned an ESG Rating of BB. In an energy-intensive and complex industrial sector like ours, we consider this result a solid engineering baseline. It is the blueprint upon which we are building the evolution of our production model.

The 2025/2026 roadmap: goals for responsible architecture

The collected data guided our R&D department and the newly established Sustainability Directorate in defining high-impact strategic goals for future architectural projects:

  • The evolution of aluminium: by 2026, we aim to source extruded aluminium containing at least 30% recycled scrap material, guaranteed by rigorous manufacturer certifications.
  • R&D on bio-based materials: in addition to recovering packaging on construction sites, we have launched a frontier project in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano. The goal is to develop protective corners for our modules made of mycelium, a 100% natural and biodegradable material.
  • Process decarbonization: we are evaluating the installation of a photovoltaic plant for self-consumption and joining the Renewable Energy Community in our local area. These structural actions aim to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 30-40% compared to the 2024 baseline.
  • Human engineering: technological excellence requires continuity and expertise. That is why 100% of our workforce has a permanent contract. Furthermore, we have established the WAT (Wellbeing Assessment Team), a cross-functional internal body dedicated to translating our team’s needs into operational initiatives to improve the quality of the work environment.

Designing together, transparently

Choosing a Sun Shading system means integrating a durable technology into the façade, produced by a supply chain that is evolving to meet the highest environmental standards.

We do not just provide solar shading, we engineer the physics of the building envelope with responsibility.
